Filmmaker Statement

For as long as I could remember, I have always been fascinated with themes and issues around love and death, I have explored it throughout my work in different forms and contexts. With Appreciation, I really wanted to craft a story that primarily explored the idea of loss and grieving. Additionally, I wanted to explore this theme of loss from the perspective of not only a grieving mother but from someone who had devoted their entire life to God. How can you serve a God that takes your only son? - This was the question that primarily formed the basis of this story, I wanted to examine the complex relationship between faith and loss.
