Filmmaker Statement

Through Jamie's perspective, this story highlights the impact of mental health issues that can go unrecognised. Dylan subtly portrays signs of depression however we never truly find out what is going on behind Dylan's pained eyes. Failure to live up to their parents wishes is alluded to, but nothing is settled. By using filmmaking devices, we bring the audience into Jamie's perspective, allowing them to experience firsthand the challenges of trying to support a loved one with mental health issues in the absence of a parent who might recognise the signs. The story does not seek to answer why mental health issues occur, but rather, it shows how even someone as close as a sibling can struggle to understand and support a loved one through their struggle.
