A city is formed by one’s memory. Around 2000, the small town I lived in was almost like a living being. As part of a southern industrial city, it was constantly being torn down and rebuilt everywhere – the result of the government’s Western Region Development project. The sound of pile drivers became the pulse of the town, and the flashing lights due to the power outage became its eyes, gazing at the hustling individuals in this changing world. With the rapid development of TV, media, and the internet, new information had been pouring in, and a whole new world of cartoons, news, and even mysticism seemed to have been created by satellite signals. As time went by, my memories of that decade had become unprovable realities. Therefore, I chose to tell this story which interweaves times, city, and hidden feelings of the individuals. To me, the so-called fantasies are actually individual realities. Cuckoo Cuckoo is my first script. The motivation of the story is" whether memory can be created by people". In my working process, I usually let a concept or idea go first until it develops into a complete story, rather than from a topic. This story is about aliens, rose imagery, childhood, fog, industrial areas and the surreal. For me, this is the process of observing and understanding the external world from my own experience, so as to be able to dig and draw inward. There is the design of drama in reality, and another kind of reality is created from the design of drama.
