Filmmaker Statement

Based on a true story, Escape is a reflection on a relationship past its prime. Set in a campy, fake tomb, a couple must deal with a very real problem; the death of the days when their relationship made sense, when they didn’t need tools of denial to get through a night together. The escape room becomes the metaphor for their relationship; they struggle to get through it, constantly gauging the other on whether it’s time to call it quits. When is the right time to say goodbye? Why do we never do it when it’s the least painful? It’s always after people have been hurt that we find ourselves finally able to let go. This story is a reflection and an apology and a bittersweet tragedy masked in a comedy.
