Hellspawn is my most personal project to date. After the triumph of my previous short film, Telephone Me, the expectations of success that I believed would come over the next few years of my career never materialised. As my late-20’s disillusionment well and truly began to settle in, the struggle to create something, at the level I envisioned, seemed to be slipping further and further away. All these personal feelings of self-sabotage are injected into the journeys of the characters along with their individual obstructions. As the production progressed, I entered my 30s, and soon understood that everyone is on their own trajectory. this industry that celebrates the 'young creative', the constant need to compare oneself with others and these goals we set for ourselves all become irrelevant when you remember the reasons you are doing this in the first place; for fun, to explore/create, and to work with your friends. But then, do those intruding thoughts and noise ever really go away?
