Filmmaker Statement

I MISS HUGS has a clear thematic and very personal influence, revealing itself as a touching depiction of loneliness and emotional attachment. Mother and daughter deal with the struggles of their new lives away from each other by forging a new sense of affection as they re-introduce some old familiar pillows into their lives. Exploring the themes of affection, isolation, and identity, both characters experience the same human crisis from their own space and the distance in between them. The film tells a story about me and my mum, and essentially how distance has shaped our relationship. Although I'm originally Spanish I have been living in Scotland for nearly 7 years now and being distanced from my loved ones has shaped my way of showing affection when I can't be present.
