Filmmaker Statement

Manic Man is a film about social anxiety and dissociation; two aspects of mental health I've struggled with my entire life. I've wanted to depict what these feel like in the cinema medium for a long time. And while my past films like Take Me Out, re:attachment, and he110 have elements that touch upon the darker fragments of depression, disconnection, and dissociation-- I've never been able to visually showcase dissociation like I do in Manic Man. My goal with this film is, through visual storytelling and without any words, put someone in the shoes of someone who struggles to connect with anyone in the world around them. Someone held back. Manic Man is part of the same universe as my past shorts re:attachment and Dona Nobis Pacem, as they are all proof of concept for an expanded feature film that tackles dissociative identity disorder through the lens of trauma.
