Filmmaker Statement

My goal with Minyan Duty was to explore this idea of finding unexpected connection and comfort through the shared act of being together—something that, I imagine, we’ve all longed for over the past two years during the pandemic. I wanted to make a film that explored “big” concepts like grief, religion, tradition, familial dynamics, and community in a way that felt specific and personal. Hopefully, this film manages to do that with both humor and heart. It’s also very, very Jewish (just like me).
