This film was made to poke fun at how our technophobia can become meaninglessly misguided - just like all our phobias. The concept of Not a Robot was simple in origin: an exercise in imagining worst case scenarios for different types of characters, which led to a robot failing to solve a 'captcha' (those infuriating log-in puzzles to prove you are human). Around this simple premise, a sci-fi world was born in which Robots are known thieves, including propaganda-like posters that seem to paint robots as villains. Naturally, the star is a robot thief with a conscience. The film was a very eco-friendly production: everything was made from re-purposed scrap, including DVD player innards, hosepipes, and cupboard hinges. EVERYTHING was recycled material. The robot hero was essentially made from furniture hinges and fixings glued together, and one brown sock for their dystopian thieving hood. The framing remained simple so the lighting could truly shine. Harkening to Ridley Scott's Alien.
