Filmmaker Statement

Hayley-May Muirhead is a Scottish filmmaker based in London. Having previously studied as a clown, Hayley-May is interested in films that showcase misfits in society and what unites us as humans. Smooch is the story of an unlikely pair who share common ground in being misfits. And under expectation and the pressure of a society decide to try something radical. The reason for making the film was to showcase romance in a different way, the way it's so different for everybody. And how everyone, no matter how out of touch, deserves to be loved. Hayley-May loves using physical comedy and subtle nuances in her films to create bold storytelling. An alumni of Raindance Film School, her graduate film "Helianthus" was selected for 7 film festivals (Raindance Film Festival, Bolton International Film Festival, Scottish Short Film Festival, Lift Off Sessions, Lift Off First Time Film Maker, Bech Test Film Festival and London-Worldwide Comedy Short Film Fest) and won multiple awards.
