THE VISIT is a biographical account of director Ebele Tate’s relationship with her estranged mother and the first time they reconnected after many years. Born in Nigeria, Ebele’s mother moved to Edinburgh at the age of nine, as her family rooted themselves in Scotland and built a new life. Shooting in Edinburgh with support from Film Edinburgh and the community, was a very cathartic experience for Ebele creatively, as the disconnect she felt as a child growing up in London, from this rich and wonderful land, was healed and she has finally had space to express her connection to it. Ebele is dual heritage from Nigerian and English descent and is interested in the intersection of gender, class, race and culture, which these worlds bear. A key theme in THE VISIT, is that of the outsider which relates to Ebele's experience in the world as a biracial woman, however where it once felt like a burden, this unique perspective is her power.
