Filmmaker Statement

"Wayan" is a film that I was inspired to create after discovering the remarkable story of a young artist living with Epidermolysis Bullosa. I first learned about Wayan through the charity organization SoleFamily Bali, which supports people living with disabilities in Indonesia. Wayan's story immediately captured my attention. Despite his condition, he had found a way to pursue his passion for art. His determination and strength were truly inspiring, and I knew that his story deserved to be shared with the world. We spent countless hours working with Wayan, the whole team, and his family to build a relationship of trust and respect so that Wayan could feel comfortable opening up to us on camera. We wanted to capture the true essence of Wayan's art and the impact it has had on his life - as well as the hope and strenght he draws from it.
