Filmmaker Statement

"Welcome to Celibacy Club" is a story centered around a young asexual girl who is trying to find community. That to me is the heart of the story: community. With this film, I want to explore what a community looks like, and how it can shape us. I think “Welcome to Celibacy Club” allows us to get a glimpse of what it means to find yourself in a place that doesn’t give you the fellowship you were looking for. Rarely are are stories centered around asexuality in the media. Even more so, rarely do we see queer stories told with both a lighthearted and comedic tone while keeping the serious levels of a queer experience. "Welcome to Celibacy Club" has both of these elements in something that I would describe as Booksmart meets Sex Education. It’s the asexual coming of age story that I needed in my own journey with asexuality. It captures the confusion and desperate need for kinship of the high school experience through an asexual lens.
