Earlier this year, my 33-year-old brother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Burkitt Lymphoma. Burkitt is aggressive, and as of the time of writing this, I’m not sure whether he’ll beat it. When Dave was first diagnosed, I was in a terrible mood. It made me a cold person. I was cruel to those around me. I disregarded their feelings. I believed my problems were the most important problems in the world, and no one could trump my sadness. To be honest, I'm still figuring out whether this film is a learning lesson for me or a suggestion for others. At the end of the day, though, I guess it can be both. Sure, I learned the lesson to treat others with kindness a bit too late, as I'm 30 now. But, at the end of the day, I guess it's better I learn that lesson late than never learn it at all.
