I wanted to make a film to represent what it feels like to be caught in your own world, blinders on, and feeling justified, and right, but mostly wrong. Navigating socially in Los Angeles, there's a strong sense of community but also ego. I wanted to represent my neighborhood of Eagle Rock and Highland Park, which has a perfect mix of city life at night that doesn't feel like shit. We're all just trying to make sense of things and carry whatever baggage. I shot this on 16mm knowing that I wanted to retain all the detail and color saturation of the street lights and neon lights and signs. Film was always the perfect medium for the representation I had in mind for this idea, having the texture and grain creating just another layer between us and what we see to maybe bring us closer to how Eisa imagines her life.
