My film GHOST BIKE was inspired by a cycling accident I saw from my Brooklyn apartment back in 2016. It was highly disturbing, but what was more disturbing was my neighborhood's attention and reaction to it afterwards. There was a lack of unity and outrage. A lack of truth. Years later, with a creative jolt, I wanted to make a film that hypothesized the social and political layers that lie within that tragedy. I imagined an encounter between two strangers and what would come from that meeting. With the help of my creative mentors and actress Tamara Tunie (COWBOY BEBOP, SEE, Cissy Houston in the forthcoming Whitney biopic), we accomplished a dramatic narrative that is multi-dimensional and challenging to the viewer. What's more curious than a film that makes you think about it beyond its run time? That's the curious future I believe art should give us. Thinking and reflecting that lingers on and on...
