Every time I saw Warren he always had a story to tell me about an interaction he had with a “customer” while picking up their recycling. He showed me cards that they would write, thanking him for everything. I could tell he was so proud of the work he was doing. I asked if I could spend a couple days going to work with him to just document his day picking up trash. There was no concrete plan of what the documentary was going to be about other than him picking up trash. It was freezing cold and you could barely see where you were driving but he had a smile on his face the entire day. He took time to play with all the dogs that ran up to see him, he took time to have a conversation with anyone who was outside on a walk or waiting by their garbage to see him. I could see how happy these interactions made him and it felt really special. The idea of Warren finding this fulfillment through these relationships he was making while picking up trash presented itself while filming.
