Filmmaker Statement

Narcissist. Not many people like the word, it has a negative connotation. Although we are taught and encouraged to love our- selves, how much love is too much? Ovid’s Exile plays on the extremities of narcissism, toxic masculinity and vanity in the present world of the social media obsessed, self promoting, ego-driven and competitive world we live in. Me Pty Ltd. The film is a slightly absurd and satirical adaptation of Narcissus and Echo from Ovid's Metamorphosis exploring the themes of narcissism to their extremes and further narcissistic relationships and the blindness of love. In this case a literal blindness. The vanity of those who paint a glorified picture or hold themselves on a pedestal made of cards is all too common, all to excepted and all too expected. Ovid’s Exile captures the dystopian of a single persons world and the moment in and the epiphany of a young mans realisation of ego-demise.
