Social media is at its height and will only continue to elevate. With it comes a plethora of information that can aid in building and strengthening a multitude of communities. This can create a positive outcome in several different areas in society when dealing with certain issues. But, the negative of social media can be just as prevalent. That's what I wanted to explore in this film. Pills Anecdotes is a series of shorts and micro shorts that cover a breadth of sub topics in the realm of relationships, masculinity and neoliberalism, self confidence and more, frequently covered on social media. Sadly, these topics can create a harmful effect to the consumers of the content. With someone that has truly became addicted to social media, craving for that attention and sense of being, what is it that got them there, or rather, what is it that they are running from? Royally Infamous explores this dynamic, although uniquely. Rochelle uses the platform as an escape from the problems that she faced in her past relationship. This leads her to her false reward in this addiction, giving her solace as she pushes her problems further aside. She's finally becoming 'royally infamous'. This is the first short of the series, with more on the way, tackling more topics within the world of the social media space, especially the toxic 'Red Pill' space which had briefly taken over the internet in the past few years. Creating the film not only helped expand my knowledge on different parts of the internet outside of my own curated algorithm but also allowed me to find my voice as a director. The message that I mean to convey has became easier for me to illustrate, and with that comes the ambiguity that all of life has that I love to travel in. Exploring the grey area can help combat those who take advantage of it in order to spread hateful messages in real life and on social media.
