Filmmaker Statement

Pop Monsters lives in a slightly altered world that begins in a dreamy utopia of female youth and slowly descends into a dark chaotic nightmare driven by jealousy, competition and lust. It is a cultural commentary on an obsession with celebrity culture coupled with the fragile nature of young female relationships. Within the span of an afternoon, our four female protagonists lose their innocence and literally turn into monsters to get what they want. The film explores fanaticism, game theory, power dynamics and privilege.
