“Ratking” came about as a way to channel a lot of anxious and paranoid energy into a creative pursuit. The story grew organically out of conversations with friends about anxiety, what it is, and the strange ways that it distorts perception. I think the final film is an amalgamation of personal experiences generously offered up by everyone involved in the production. “Ratking” took a long time to come together so it can be difficult to remember the initial spark. I do remember finding a dead rat in my backyard in Los Angeles on a Sunday morning. It was interesting to notice the many subtle ways that a small encounter like that can transform the trajectory of your day.
