People of colour are 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and I wanted to look into the environmental factors that contribute to this. Larissa studied creative writing and would do a module in Psychology of 'Art & Film' exploring how arthouse cinema drives social narratives and takes risks with its gaze. This heavily influenced the way in which Larissa approached the project and allowed her to play around with the portrayal of surrealism. Larissa would watch projects such as; Memento & La haines to further explore a non-linear approach to story telling and how social realism can enhance a viewers understanding of the world created on screen. In this instance, it was the black British male experience of psychosis. This is a community based project, that I hope to develop into a feature length one day
