Filmmaker Statement

Our film enters the dystopian landscape of Silent World, plunging you headfirst into the perspective of Signkid, a deaf rapper. In the film, deadly gas clouds sweep the nation, and Signkid struggles with isolation in this dangerous new world. No one is able to communicate with him, and he must find a way to survive. Silent World was born from the rap of the same name, written by Signkid and turned into an exciting and hugely important short, aimed to improve accessibility within film. Each core moment in the film is pulled from real life, heightening issues that Signkid has experienced. The film represents just a small part of how difficult it is to be deaf in an inaccessible world, bringing to life the sense of isolation, fear and societal disconnection Signkid felt during this time of his life.
