"The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting... that's pride f****** with you”. Truer words have rarely been spoken, and fewer things have the power to make us draw swords quicker than the sting of loss in a video game. We made this film in love and out of fascination with video games' innate ability to draw out the worst of people's competitive egos. A victory in a game has no real world currency, no external value of any kind and yet we take them so seriously and desire them beyond reason. I wanted to capture that internal feeling of frustration and defeat, which us as filmmakers have all experienced, and externalise it in this visually inventive, hyper-stylised take on the video game showdown. It draws on influences from Neon Genesis Evangelion to Wong Kar Wai and Spike Lee and infuses these with a deeply ‘London’ cultural sensibility to bring you a loud, over the top, surreal deep dive into the mind of a man whose very being is about to unravel before our eyes.
