For almost half a century, Don Ritchie would approach people contemplating suicide at the edge of a cliff, just 100 feet from his home, his palms facing up. Voiced by Hugo Weaving.

Filmmaker Statement

1917 people take their own life every day. Suicide is pervasive in our society and it can swallow families, friends, and communities closest to that person. As a society, we need to understand that having a conversation about mental illness is as simple as having a cup of tea. Our mission with Teacups has always been to contribute to that understanding; simple acts of kindness can save lives. When we began this project, we consulted with and received the support of mental health charities such as Gotcha4Life and LivingWorks. They assured us of the film’s approach to mental health but also impressed upon us how suicide affects us all. Since then, our team, from Hugo to our animators, have been dedicated to telling Don’s story with care and to the highest standard.
