As a director and drama teacher Samantha meets a lot of young people who experience some form of social pressure. Because of this pressure and the expectations, they don’t know who they are anymore, or perhaps have never known. She sees them and she recognises them, because Samantha has been there herself. ‘The beauty of No’ tells the story of social pressure, sense of self and the search for your own identity. We portray this by casting four different actors to play one character, the protagonist: Nikki. These four actors switch and morph into each other as the plot unravels. Nikki tries to discover who she is, free form social conventions, expectations and appearances. However, she does not get a fair chance to do so because of her suffocating surroundings: in which she threatens to disappear.
