Filmmaker Statement

My two brothers and I spent over a decade, respectively, of our lives playing football across clubs in Northern Ireland. Being of mixed race we shared all too similar experiences that spanned a 20 year period. I watched as my youngest brother suffered racial abuse that I too faced a decade before him. This is our home and football is our religion. There’s nothing that has bonded us more, both to each other and to our country, than this sport. In making this film, it became as much a personal journey for myself as it was an exploration of how the game has, or hasn't changed, over time. By sharing these young players stories we can help spread awareness of the effects of how we behave on and off the pitch shapes their identity as a Northern-Irish person.
