This film centers on a family fractured by grief. One year after their father’s death, Charlie (played by singer/songwriter Adam Halferty of American Tomahawk and Mr. Griever) endlessly repairs the old family house while his sister, Betty (played by Jessie Rabideau), decides to sell their father’s car without anyone’s consent - the same car their father committed suicide in. As the two avoid confronting their grief, mental health, and each other, a hunchbacked creature shadows their every move. Their estranged, and believed to be dead, Uncle Pete (played by character-actor James Russo from Django Unchained, Donnie Brasco, & My Own Private Idaho), claims to have answers, if only Charlie or Betty would get out of their own head and accept help. The script focuses on the distance and strain between characters and how that builds over time. With themes of depression, anxiety, and mental illness, Woe shows what happens when we don’t talk to each other about what hurts us or ask for help from those we love.
