Filmmaker Statement

“You Don’t Say” is a project of unabashed love and creativity. This short traverses many different genres in twelve minutes, including Westerns, Sci Fi, Film Noir, Romance and more! The project is a true collaboration between two writer/performers, a dedicated team of artists and technicians and myself, a filmmaker obsessed with the musical genre. At The Barn, our production company dedicated to making indie movie musicals, we believe that vocal performances must be recorded live on set, not lip-synced to pre-recorded tracks. Even at a low budget level we’ve been able to achieve this goal. “You Don’t Say” is proof that not only is this possible, it can be transcendent. The film is a celebration of books and film; and (did I mention?) it's a joyous musical—which we need more of in the world.
